EXPLAINED

What is CTC?

CTC (Cost to Company) is the total amount your employer spends on you in a year — your cash salary plus employer contributions such as employer PF and gratuity. Gross salary is the cash part, and take-home salary is what lands in your account after income tax, employee PF and professional tax. Because CTC can include non-cash items, it is always higher than your in-hand salary.

THE FLOW

How is in-hand salary calculated?

  1. Annual CTC
  2. Gross salary (fixed + variable cash pay)
  3. Employee PF
  4. Professional tax
  5. Income tax / TDS
  6. Other applicable deductions
  7. Monthly in-hand salary

COMPONENTS

What is included in CTC?

A CTC typically bundles basic salary, HRA, employee and employer PF, gratuity, variable pay, bonus and other allowances. The exact mix varies by employer — for example, some include a large gratuity, others put more into variable pay. The calculator estimates a common structure but always shows the assumptions so you can compare fairly.

HOW IT WORKS

How our calculator works

Enter your annual CTC, then choose your tax regime, state and whether variable pay is fully payable. The calculator estimates your salary structure, applies FY 2026-27 tax rules, PF, gratuity and professional tax, and returns your estimated monthly take-home along with every deduction. Actual salary can differ depending on employer-specific structure and deductions.

FAQ

Common salary questions

What is the difference between CTC and in-hand salary?

CTC is the total cost to your employer, including non-cash employer contributions. In-hand is what reaches your bank account after income tax, employee PF and professional tax are deducted from your gross salary.

How is in-hand salary calculated from CTC?

Starting from CTC, subtract employer-only items (employer PF, gratuity) to get gross, then subtract employee PF, professional tax and income tax to get annual in-hand; divide by 12 for the monthly figure.

How much is ₹10 LPA in-hand salary?

Under the new regime with a standard structure, a ₹10 LPA CTC typically nets roughly 75–80% of the monthly CTC equivalent as in-hand, depending on tax regime, structure and location.

Does CTC include employer PF?

Yes. Employer PF is part of CTC but is not paid to you as monthly cash — it is credited to your provident fund separately.

Is gratuity included in CTC?

Yes, gratuity is treated as an employer contribution within CTC (about 4.81% of basic per year). It is not usually paid as part of your monthly cash.

Why is my in-hand salary lower than my CTC?

Because CTC includes employer contributions and non-guaranteed variable pay, while your in-hand is your gross salary minus income tax, employee PF and professional tax.
